Tips
on size and numbers
Seating
Styles
BANQUET
SEATING. This type of seating
refers to a sit down dinner planed. The
general rule of thumb is to allow approximately 8 to 10 square feet per person.
A 48 inch table will seat 6 people,
while a 54 inch table can accommodate 6 to 8 people.
A 60 inch and 72 inch table will seat 10 to 12 people.
You can estimate about 4 to 5 feet between tables to allow for enough
movement.
RECEPTION
SEATING. At a reception there are
very few tables and chairs. A few
cocktail tables and lounge chairs are good.
Because of this, the capacity increases up to 50 % compared to a banquet
seating. You might consider having
a coffee table or small round tables and chairs for the elderly.
THEATRE
SEATING. Theatre style seating
consists of rows of chairs set up in front of a speakers’ table or podium (for
workshops & seminars). The
chairs can be set up straight across or in a semi-circle.
If you do set up straight across, make sure you allow for at least 10
foot of space away from the speaker’s podium or table.
Be sure to allow enough space between the isles, usually 6 to 8 foot
across.
"Wishing
Well" Wedding Reception: growing in popularity with the Brides is
the Wishing Well theme. In lieu of gifts (for the couple who have
everything already), the bride and groom set up a wishing well to receive
monetary gifts placed in envelopes. The money can be used to purchase
larger home items or be used for the honeymoon. Check with the rental
companies, crafts stores and hobby shops to rent a Wishing
Well. These can be decorated with silk flowers and other items.
Creative Wishing Wells can also be made/built by creative people! Be sure
to add a lock for safety-sake. Add an embossed
Victorian Folding fan on your Wishing Well!
For the creative & talented, many designs and forms can be made out of Styrofoam. Styrofoam can be used to create a gazebo, a cake, a wishing well, or other props. One bride I knew actually made her wedding cake out of Styrofoam, decorated it with icing, flowers, lace, pearl beads and flowers, and then served sheet-cake style. It preserved the beauty of the wedding cake and remained the centerpiece for the entire reception!
