Man of Honor Duties Checklist

The Bride's First Attendant
An Honor to Serve

by Valerie Tillery, www.plannersguide.com

  • Buy the couple a nice wedding gift

  • Be at the Rehearsal on time

  • Bring her flowers at the Rehearsal to practice with

  • Help at the Rehearsal Dinner where needed, introducing yourself

  • Give a toast at rehearsal dinner, if appropriate

  • Help the bride decorate the reception and ceremony site, if needed

  • Help the bride remain calm prior to ceremony and at altar

  • Help the bride to laugh--she'll be stressed

  • Arrange the bride's train and veil before the ceremony begins and just after she arrives at the altar

  • Hold the bouquet during the ceremony during the exchanging of the rings until after the kiss

  • Stand in the receiving line.

  • Play hostess along with the bridesmaids at frequent points during the reception: greet guests, making them feel comfortable, ask guests if they are having a good time and if they need anything, show guests where to sit, direct them to restrooms, tell them to where to put presents, invite them to sign the guest book, etc.

  • Collect any gift envelopes brought to the reception and/or the money bag from the dollar dance and keep them in a safe place

  • Give a toast at the reception, but after the Best Man

  • Dance with the Bridesmaids

  • Assist with the bride's luggage

  • Help the bride's mother get all the wedding gifts loaded

  • Help the bride's mother get the bridal gown packed and loaded

  • Help gather keepsake souvenirs of the wedding for the bride, such as toasting glasses, flowers, favors, and gather up the guest book once all guests have signed in

  • Ask if there is any rental items that might need loading

Do your best to be calm, cheery & gracious

(even if you don't feel like it)

Be her Best Friend!

Wedding Colors
Primary colors for spring, warm colors for fall, cool colors for summer and deep colors for winter. Some choose their favorite colors while others choose colors that match theme ideas. In recent years, some brides have chosen black for their maids and matron's dresses, yet the best southern rule would raise an eyebrow over this decision as being inappropriate. In old times, the wedding party would dress in white to match the bride in the event the bride was kidnapped. It also averted evil spirits.

Create a combination of colors that fit with the effect you are creating. Blend colors, patterns and designs to develop your theme.

Colors tell who you are, your personality, the favorite season and the image you offer others. Simple and elegant to boastful and proud.

Japanese brides use red as a tradition. Victorian lovers might use tapestry. Go to the paint section and pull color cards to mix and match. This will give you plenty to study by and generate ideas for your beautiful wedding.
