You LOVE to Cook & Design Presentation of Food

Being a caterer has been a long-time goal of yours.  It may be a free-standing business or an addition to an existing service that you offer.   Perhaps you have always been the one to coordinate office parties, family events in the home or even organize all the parties.

You probably have special recipes and secret ingredients that would set you apart from all the others.   So, let's turn this 'hobby' into a 'real business'.  Being an independent entrepreneur is a growing source of income for business owners.  Many people rely on the convenience of having a caterer prepare and serve the selected menu.  They can relax knowing that every detail will be thought of and taken care by  you!

...the main goal is:   to run it more like a business and less like a hobby

Going into business for ourselves takes effort and is by no means a way to make money the easy way--no such thing.  Yet, many with natural talents and abilities are starting a small business whether it's from home or a small facility.   This will take hard work and commitment on your part, so you need to study your options and make a business start-up plan.

A business plan assist you in the brainstorming process and guides your thoughts about the operational aspects of the business.  You also have to decide on the 'fun stuff' to as to the types of foods you will offer to how you present your masterpieces.

Part-time?  Full-time?  Sometimes?
You may be aiming for the big arena.......full-time entrepreneurship business!   Part-time can be a "stepping stone" to full-time.  A great number of self-employed professionals did not quit their day job until they felt secure enough to go out on their own.  But, you'll love the freedom so much that you will set goals to "quit your day job"!

Question:  Is this for you?  A small business isn't for everyone, yet what better way than to cast ou your talents.

The Strategy of a Business Plan?

A working plan that you specifically design explores your market and your business structure.  Many people skip this step, yet if you haven't surveyed all your options, you may miss out!    We like to plan and organize menus and festivities, yet the first thing to organize is your business operations.  Put your "creative nature" aside for a minute and assume a "business" stance.

For example, will you only do in-home weddings and parties?  Will you only consider take-home parties?  What hours will you operate?  You may only want to target one service area, yet branching out into other avenues (i.e. corporate events) may assist in producing additional revenue for you.

Does your targeted market have a need for a caterer?    Do you go into partnership with a friend or family member--or go solo?  How do your set up your business records?  These are a few things I have on a very long list to consider when developing your working plan.   Your "hobby turned business" must turn a profit or why do this?  Thinking like a "business-minded" person, channels your goal - making money with your talents.

How do you stand out?

Every town has a need and the trick is to find what is needed and be the best.  Find your place in this growing market.   The idea is to find the niche in the market for your area that has a gap.   Find the market, fill the need and outshine the rest!

Design your working plan in a way that promotes a unique customer service experience.  There's much to learn, so always scoop up as much information and perspective as possible--your clients will all be different!

Is "Now" the Right Time to do This?

If you have even considered owning your own catering business, then you have the ability to be an independent achiever.

Not everyone finds this appealing---but you do!   Is "now" the right time to start?   No more excuses----there is never a "right" time to do it.   Sometimes, we just have to do it!
