Becoming a
Wedding & All-Occasion Events Planner
Starting an Event Wedding Planner Planning Business

Your family and friends know that you're the planner and organizer amongst them all. You see the whole picture and probably use post-it-notes and planner lists, right?

How many times have you heard people say,
"you're so talented, you should start a business!"?

You've most likely coordinated events successfully and have asked yourself why you don't do it for money.

Everyone knows how to do something or sell something. We've all acquired certain skills in our lives, and it might be the path to a new career opportunity. Why not turn it from being a "hobby" to a "real business."
It is a lot of fun doing something that you truly like. It brings more joy into your life when you have something positive to look forward to. So, perhaps you have always had a desire to start a home-based business and become an independent entrepreneur.

...the main goal is:
to run it more like a business and less like a hobby

Going into business for ourselves takes effort and is by no means a way to make money the easy way--no such thing. Yet, many with natural talents and abilities are working from home or starting a small business. This will take hard work and commitment on your part, so you need to study your options and make a business start-up plan. It may be easy to organize a major event, yet sometimes, it’s the "technical" aspects and lack of thorough planning that blocks us into a corner! Success is not by accident.

Something to consider is the shift in the economy and those becoming self-employed. The 'traditional job' is decreasing in many fields and forcing some to choose home businesses. What if you were to become laid off from your current job and had nothing to fall back on?  Do you have business ideas for after-retirement?
Having a side-business may provide some insurance for you. In the unsure times of today, more people are turning homeward to make a living. Perhaps your neighbor or co-worker is working a home-based business.

You may be aiming for the big arena.......full-time entrepreneurship business! Part-time can be a "stepping stone" to full-time. A great number of self-employed professionals did not quit their day job until they felt secure enough to go out on their own. But, you'll love the freedom so much that you will set goals to "quit your day job"!    Question:  Is this for you? A small business isn't for everyone, yet getting out of your "comfort zone" (or broaden it) may be the answer.

The Strategy of a Business Plan?
A working plan that you specifically design explores your market and your business structure. Many people skip this step, yet if you haven't surveyed all your options, you may miss out! We like to plan and organize social events, yet the first thing to organize is your business operations. Sound unexciting? Well, perhaps----yet put your "creative nature" aside for a minute and assume a "business" stance.

For example, do you limit it to only weddings? Only parties? Will you branch out to all-occasion events? You may only want to target one service area, yet branching out into other avenues (i.e. sales) may assist in producing additional revenue for you.

Does your targeted market call for a specialized coordinator of at-home weddings? Do you set up a small store front? Do you go into partnership with a friend or family member--or go solo? How do your set up your business records? These are a few things I have on a very long list to consider when developing your working plan. Your "hobby turned business" must turn a profit or why do this? Thinking like a "business-minded" person, channels your goal - making money with your talents.

How do you stand out?
Every town has a need and the trick is to find what is needed and be the best. Find your place in this growing market. The idea is to find the niche in the market for your area that has a gap.

If children's birthday parties are in need of someone to offer this as a service, then that might work best. Perhaps you desire to be the coordinator for Open House Celebrations, Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies for new businesses or even Note Burning Ceremonies when the debt is being paid off. You can work with the visitor's bureau in your area and make contact with businesses and non-profit organizations. How about catering a chocolate fountain or "candy store" with several crystal bowls full of candy only be be scooped up with a silver scoop!

Operating a business, boutique or retail setting to coordinate events, parties, weddings and other celebrations is fun to "us planners." If you are choosing Internet sales to supplement your services and business prospects (and I suggest that you do), choose products that enhance your business. Your favorite part will be to find out how much money you made while sleeping.

So where's the market?
Approximately 5 million brides and grooms get married every year in the U.S. The wedding industry is a 50 billion dollar a year industry. In Canada, the estimated average wedding cost: $22,460. This is only one market area and does not account for fees paid for company parties, board of director retreats, retirement parties, children events and family celebrations of all types.

With any job, you must look around at your ‘current living situation’ and ask yourself what lifestyle would you prefer?

Perhaps you are ready for a diversion or positive change from your current position! Maybe you feel trapped---and need a way out.  If you like to create magic, help others in a "positive environment". You can share in the experience of a customer celebrating those "precious moments" and happy, family events!
In the uncertain times that this country has faced over the last few years, people need family connection and observances. People are still getting married, still having babies and still looking toward the future. How does this affect you?
You can offer a great service and product and you gain more freedom in your personal life. You can spend time with your family or care for your children (or aging parent). You can strongly proclaim that "family or yourself comes first!"
Either way, a home-based opportunity may enable you to save money on the side and do something that you truly enjoy doing for once. BUT! You have to get out of your "comfort zone" and try this!
.

.....more people are turning homeward to make a living so they have something to fall back on!

As for education, most do not have degrees or certification...just experience, the talent and the willingness to be an entrepreneur. It's up to you as to how you might use a degree or certification, yet word of mouth and building your reputation is key to a successful venture. Basic knowledge of the industry is needed and the willingness to learn more has to be present. Our PlannersGuide Biz kit program offers guidance and information in combination with the skills and talents that you already possess.

Is "Now" the Right Time?
If you have even considered owning your own business, then you have the ability to be an independent achiever.

Not everyone finds this appealing---but you do! Is "now" the right time to start? Quit making excuses, because there is never a "right" time to do it. Sometimes, we just have to go for it!

Last Questions:
If your life continues in the same direction it is now...
· Will you honestly be where you really want to be one year from today?
· Will you have reality toward your business dream?

Do this for You and start something you'll Enjoy, just like Jennifer Lopez in 'The Wedding Planner!"

Use the start-up kit below to help motivate you in getting started......design your working business plan and explore your direction.

The business start-up plan section is formatted as self-directed home study, to be completed at your own pace. PLUS! The information is formatted for digital convenience in Microsoft Word or RTF for Mac users. This means that the format is printable and modifiable unlike some programs (and books) that use PDF formats that are NOT modifiable for your needs.

Biz PlannersGuide.com Start-up Guides offer you a way to explore your business dreams while making solid plans. Start things off correctly versus back-tracking later down the road. The structure, forms, check lists and worksheets make things so much easier for you.  We all need a little help along the way and with all the files that are included in the kits, you will gain new ideas and see how to develop your business. The event planner guide provides coordinating ideas, check-lists and protocol agendas.

 Coordinating Seminars & Workshops

Event planning comes in all forms.......your "creative nature" will assist in that prospect. Some go straight into wedding planning only, while others do all-occasion events. A lady in Arizona whose daughter is lending a hand at teas, showers and dinner type of events started their business. They bought an old home and remolded it and were going to add some retail products. Of course, not everyone can do this, yet promote your vision.

Design your working plan in a way that promotes a unique customer service experience. There's much to learn, so always scoop up as much information and perspective as possible--your clients will all be different!

Thank You so much Valerie! Your course work is very comprehensive. You ask questions that make the potential business owner really consider the decisions that we are about to make when becoming professional entrepreneurs. You spark research into what could be a financial disaster if we don’t prepare and use all of the valuable resources you provide in the course work. I have recommended your Certification to others that I know who are interested in being legitimate in the Event & Bridal Planning field. I am so impressed with what you offer. I am ready to get started soon…..Thanks for everything!
