Responsibilities Involved in Baby Dedication---Christian parents who dedicate a child are making a promise to the Lord to do everything within their power to raise the child in a godly way, prayerfully until he or she can make a decision on his or her own to follow God. Parents who make this vow of commitment are instructed to raise the child in the ways of God, and not according to their own ways. Some of the responsibilities include teaching and training the child in God's Word, demonstrating an example of godliness, disciplining according to God's ways, and praying earnestly for the child

Poem: "Baby" (a mom's questions and a baby's answers)
Where did you come from, Baby dear? Out of the everywhere into here. Where did you get those eyes so blue? Out of the sky as I came through. Where did you get that little tear? I found it waiting when I got here. What makes your forehead so smooth and high? A soft hand stroked it as I went by. What makes your check like a warm white rose? I saw something better than anyone knows. Whence that three-cornered smile of bliss? Three angels gave me at once a kiss. Where did you get this pearly ear? God spoke and it came out to hear. Where did you get those arms and hands? Love made itself into bonds and bands. Feet, whence did you come, you darling things? From the same box as the cherubs' wings. How did they all just come to be you? God thought about me and so I grew. But how did you come to us, you dear? God thought about you and so I am here!

Agenda Ideas for Dedication Ceremony

A namegiving ceremony is not a baptism or a christening although it is sometimes referred to as a 'secular christening'.

The namegiving ceremony conducted by a civil celebrant is a fulfilling and significant experience for all concerned. It is an occasion when a new birth is celebrated and a child welcomed into the world. Family relationships are deepened and the parents become more fully aware of their responsibilities. So, of course, do the godparents (also called 'mentors' or' guardians') and grandparents.

The naming ceremony also has a community dimension represented by the wider circle of family and friends. It is an excellent occasion for the cultural expression of joy, hope and acceptance. Some religious people choose the non-religious naming service to celebrate the birth of their child. Some Christians, for example, do not believe in infant baptism and so choose this cultural celebration; they leave the child free to choose or not to choose baptism in the late teens. In fact naming ceremonies are performed on this principle.

The namegiving ceremony also responds to the cultural and community need to welcome a child into the family and the world, to remind all concerned of the great responsibility involved in bringing up a child, and to recognise and appoint those who will have an important role in the child's development.

What? Baby Naming Ceremonies are becoming quite popular amongst couples. Taken from the Australian and Jewish culture, this special ceremony can be formal or informal.

The Naming Ceremony provides an opportunity to present the newest family member before family and friends.
Why? Naming ceremonies are an alternative or an addition to a church Christening or Baptism.  It is also a special event for Protestant family and baby dedication Sunday.

Who? You will want to invite family and close friends, especially those who will play a major part in the child's life.  This is an excellent purpose for a family reunion. As a special celebration you can ask a minister or close family friend to provide the blessings and the announcements.
When? The Naming Ceremony can be held at a convenient time for the couple, after the birth of the child.  The 1st month birthday is also a considered time.

Where? The naming ceremony can be held at the home of the Godparents, grandparents, your own home, park, reception hall or other unique possibilities.

How? The Naming ceremony can have a touch of protocol and a touch of special creativity. As with most ceremonies, consider the following as ideas:
-Greetings, Introduction and welcome to family and guests
-Special Scripture or Poem read by a designated person
-Candle Lighting Ceremony (candle for baby, parents, grandparents, godparents)
-Special music
-The Naming and Blessing
-Acknowledgement and Recognition of Godparents, Sponsors, Mentors or Guardians (include special duties)
-Special Prayer or Verse
-Benediction/Conclusion
-Presentation of Child and Certificate

Other?
Your celebration can also include a small buffet, finger foods, cheese & crackers, or even a bar-b-q! After the ceremony be sure to include a photo session, including the "generation photo" with grandparents and great-grandparents if blessed.
Provide your guests with special favors and candy treats. You may also want to print up a special Program keepsake/memento of the ceremony. This is where you can list special people in the infant's life, specifics like time of birth, weight, and things especially remembered about the day, etc.

 La Quaresma … Baby’s 40th Day Celebration
… Baby Dedication … 40-Day Blessing

Symbolic of Jesus being presented to the temple after 40 days.
It was the custom of antiquity for the mother of a male child to present herself for purification on the fortieth day after the day of birth.
Entrance into the Temple of Christ on the 40th day of his birth and received into the arms of Simeon the Prophet. Anne the Prophetess also witnesses about Jesus being the Messiah. Simeon & Anna represent Jews from the Temple who accepted the Christ.

A baby's baptism is a very special time in your life and your child's life.
Baptism favors can help you and your family and friends
share and enjoy a very special event in your child's life.
Make sure your guests know how overjoyed you are that
they are there enjoying this time with you with a special gift.
